From Chile to the World: The Rise of Billy Dancer (The Story Behind InMono)

At the magazine, we had the pleasure of connecting with one of those true standouts in electronic music — the kind of artist we genuinely love to see coming out of Chile. For some time now, this father, musician, producer, and key figure in the Chilean scene has been building something powerful.

Latin America’s electronic scene is no longer emerging — it’s evolving. Across the continent, artists are redefining what it means to build identity through sound, blending emotional depth with dancefloor functionality. Among them, Billy Dancer stands out as part of a generation that isn’t chasing trends — they’re building narrative.

From Chile to expanding international stages, his journey reflects movement, independence, and a commitment to emotional storytelling through electronic music. At the center of that evolution lies InMono Records — a project that began as a label and has grown into something much bigger.

Through his project InMono Records, he’s been taking the local scene to another level — traveling across the country, hosting events, releasing his music on his own label, and creating showcases inspired by his signature “Romantic Techno” style: exclusive, melodic, never heavy — always a deep, enjoyable experience.

Today, InMono Records is more than a label. It’s a growing production platform, a vibe, an experience built around a crew that has expanded its energy and closeness with the audience. It represents what electronic music is truly about — connection, intention, and shared emotion on the dancefloor. We invite you to experience their events and discover this collective shaping a new chapter in Chile’s electronic culture.

We spoke with Billy about his path, his philosophy, and the vision behind his sound.

How did your path in electronic music begin, and what do you consider the most important moments in your development as an artist?

My path in electronic music began as an opportunity. My whole life I felt something inside me that pulled me toward music — from imitating, at a very young age, the dances and songs of Michael Jackson, to participating in singing competitions, to forming bands in the different places where I happened to live. It was always something special to me.

Because of my father’s job, I had to move and live in different places from a very young age. By the time I was 16, I had already changed schools and cities six times. Music was probably always that quick “connection” with people and unfamiliar places — it’s a universal language. At the same time, constantly having to leave friends behind also postponed my possibility of putting down roots with a specific group or genre.

That’s why electronic music became an opportunity to explore. I found a way to not need a drummer or a bass player to accompany me in order to create my melodies and vocals. Electronic music gave me the opportunity to materialize my ideas without depending on others. It wasn’t just a passion — it was also a form of expression.

Looking back, what achievements or moments marked a before and after in your career?

There have been several milestones that have marked me. I’ve had the opportunity to hand over the booth to different references within my musical proposal, such as Argentine artist Juan Hansen.

But probably, looking back, daring to build my own 1–2 hour sets using only my own productions and playing exclusively my tracks has been, by far, the most enriching experience. Making mistakes, surprising myself, and seeing how people react to them is the most beautiful part, and I feel very proud of that. There’s nothing more satisfying to me than seeing how people receive and feel my music.

How would you define your current musical style, and what differentiates it within the Chilean and Latin American electronic scene?

Today I would define my style as a mix between Deep House, Melodic House, Melodic Techno, and what I like to call “Romantic Techno.” I define it as a way of creating different music — with long analog synth melodies, tracks that feel like they don’t really have an end and always seem to have something more hidden inside.

It’s music that seeks to generate emotion, not just energy to dance to. I’m very interested in building musical journeys that have depth, melody, and a certain sense of nostalgia.

Within the Chilean and Latin American scene, I think what differentiates my proposal is precisely that search for a more emotional and narrative aesthetic on the dancefloor, where each set or production tries to tell a personal story, with music produced in my studio.

What philosophy guides your work when you’re producing or when you’re in front of a dancefloor?

For me, the most important thing is musical honesty. When I produce, I try to create music that truly generates something in me first. If an idea doesn’t move me, it probably won’t move anyone else. It has to give me goosebumps first — then everyone else.

I’ve read and listened to several podcasts and books, like the one by Rick Rubin, which I recommend to any artist who needs a little push to dare. There are so many talents who never dare — and even more music that we will never hear because they didn’t take that step.

I like to think of a set as a story, with moments of tension, emotion, and release.

What upcoming releases, events, or projects should we highlight?

Together with the crew at InMono Records, we’ve been closing several dates for March, April, and May. We’re a group of DJs who have been strengthening our bond, each contributing our part so that our energy can hopefully be felt at every event we participate in.

InMono Records started as a label where I wanted to release my music and put it into orbit, but over time it has transformed into a community where we try to stay close to our people and guests, so that everyone feels part of something. We aim to generate experiences through showcases and events where we can present our musical vision. It’s not always my music — each of us has our own musical taste — but when we’re together, we seek to create an atmosphere of good energy and warmth.

The idea is to keep connecting artists, music, and audiences around the aesthetic we’re building.

What Is InMono Records?

More than a traditional label, InMono Records represents an evolving creative ecosystem within Chile’s electronic underground. What began as a platform to release Billy’s productions has grown into a collaborative structure built around shared vision, emotional aesthetics, and community energy.

InMono operates at the intersection of label, collective, and event platform. Its showcases function as curated experiences rather than simple parties — carefully constructed spaces where melodic depth, analog textures, and narrative-driven sets take priority over formulaic trends. Each member brings a distinct sonic identity, yet the collective energy remains cohesive.

The long-term vision extends beyond national borders. InMono aims to export not only music, but atmosphere — building bridges between Latin American artists and international audiences through a shared emotional language rooted in electronic culture.

A Generation Writing Latin America’s Electronic Present

Artists like Billy Dancer are redefining what it means to build a career from Latin America today. No longer peripheral to the global conversation, the region’s producers and DJs are actively shaping it. They are blending local sensibility with international standards, emotional storytelling with technical precision.

What sets this new wave apart is intention. There is independence, self-production, and community-building at its core. There is also risk — daring to play original music, daring to form collectives, daring to build labels from the ground up.

Billy’s trajectory reflects a broader movement happening across the continent: musicians who are not waiting for validation, but instead creating platforms, scenes, and narratives of their own. In doing so, they are not just participating in the history of electronic music — they are actively writing its current chapter.
